Along the Beach
Along the Beach
pastel on paper, 20” X 28”
I love to walk along the beaches in Cape Cod during the off season months. Usually no one is around and the wind is blowing fiercely but I find a certain sort of serenity and calm in the elements. My first encounter with Cape Cod did not go well - I viewed the whole place rather disrespectfully as the Northern Sea - something we, Croatian look down on as inhospitable and cold, lacking in color. Over the years, my mother in law, Vivian Bower, also an artist, showed me the beauty in the subtle tones of hidden moores and ocean beaches, small harbours and inlets, especially on one week long trip during the month of October several years ago. I will always associate the Cape with her and revel in discovering more and more of the secrets of this narrow spit of sand jutting out into the Artlantic ocean. This pastel was created during one of my October walks.
