My life has been spent migrating between the countryside and the city at regular intervals. As the seasons changed, so did our family move from the city to the seaside and back again in the fall. The stark contrast between the sites, sounds and smells of the two provoked observations that became a sort of language for me. The way that people hear, is the way I see. Landscapes in particular speak to me the rich language of nature, never the same and intimate in its conveyance of the essence of life.
I have done a number of landscapes in both pastel and oil and have recently started to work in acrylic. Each of the mediums lend a different quality to the paintings, particular to the landscape I am working on.

The beauty and creativity of plants captivate me. Each petal and leaf, root and branch, fruit and flower form a delicate harmony—a universe of its own within a single bloom. This intricate wonder has inspired many of my paintings, and I often draw from the changing seasons in our Colorado garden, observing blooms as they grow, age, and rest in dormancy.
Since moving to New York city, I’ve found these moments of nature at flower stands on street corners, in bouquets brought home to paint, and in sketches from parks and rooftop gardens I’ve had the chance to visit. This body of work, created 2016-2020, spans pastel, oil, and watercolor, with pieces ranging from medium to large scale.
In addition to these explorations of nature, my newest series, At Home, emerged during the pandemic years when time and space allowed for careful observation of familiar objects and plants. The style evokes the sensibilities of mid-century modernist painters, focusing on the often-overlooked details of the home. This period fostered a deeper appreciation for the everyday—a study of the forms, textures, and colors of family objects and indoor plants. Each piece in this collection is a quiet homage to the beauty of the often seen and, with a new, more sensitive lens, the deeply observed.
